AFCI
An Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter, or AFCI, is a safety device available as an outlet or a breaker, typically rated at 15 or 20 amps. As the name suggests, these devices are designed to detect and quickly interrupt electrical power when a dangerous arc fault occurs in a circuit. Arcing often happens at loose connections and can generate intense heat – sometimes even hotter than the surface of the sun! How hot?
When the AFCI circuit was first developed, it was prone to nuisance tripping from things such as arcing from motors, power fluctuations, excessive heat, and wires pressed together too tightly. Engineers are constantly striving for new ways to supply electricity in a safe manner. It sounds crazy, but all our outlets may soon be in the cloud. Smart plug
